Have you ever wondered what the Filipino's listen to? Some of the Filipino's listen to the Indigenous Traditional music. While others listen to American Influenced or Spanish-European Influenced Traditions. The Philippines is made up of 77 provinces grouped into 16 regions.
There are three types of traditional music. They're The Indigenous, American Influenced, and Spanish-European Influenced Traditional. The Indigenous Tradition is practice by 10% of the population. 8% comprises 50 language groups who live in the mountains of northern Luzon. 2% are Muslims who live in Mindanao or Sulu. The instruments are made up of bronze, bamboo, or silver. This includes gongs, flutes, drums, clappers, zithers, and buzzers. This tradition is usually played at rituals, war, funerals, celebrations, war or at children's games. It is still being practiced today. The second is the Spanish-European tradition. It's made up of Spaniards and the Hispanicization. It's basically religious and old folk songs. Any instruments in The Philippines could be played with this. The last one is the American- Influenced tradition. It's regime lasted from 1898-1946. This type of music was included in the public schools. It includes folk songs, theater music, and instrumental music. American lifestyle had given rise to music using Pinoy Pop. This included dance tunes, ballads, rock n' roll, and disco. To conclude, the Philippines have all kinds of music traditions. |
